Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy fosters a spiritual learning environment built on faith, respect and social justice centered on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The rigorous educational traditions that Our Lady is building focus on the development of the whole child to achieve growth in the academic, socio-emotional, physical and spiritual domains, working in cooperation with our parents, the primary educators of their children. Our dedicated faculty and staff work collaboratively utilizing best practice in programs assisting students to discover their God-given gifts and talents and joyfully share these gifts in service to others.
Fr. Michael Shannon, L.C, founded Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy in the summer of 2008. Two years earlier, the Church became a diocesan parish after having been a mission church for 45 years. The Academy is a Diocese of Phoenix Catholic School and an Arizona Department of Health Services licensed facility-serving children 2 ½ years of age through elementary grade 3. In 2010, the Diocese of Phoenix granted permission for the expansion of our program and the facility. The Academy continues to add a grade every year. Upon completion of the expansion, we will serve ages 2 ½ years through eighth grade. The programs for children at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy are child-centered, with a constructivist approach to learning. (Constructivist teaching is based on the belief that learning occurs as learners are actively involved in a process of meaning and knowledge construction as opposed to passively receiving information.) All lead preschool and elementary school teachers have a Bachelor of Arts and/or Master’s Degree in the fields of early childhood, family studies, and/or elementary education. All elementary teachers must meet the state of Arizona teacher certification requirements. Our support staff are qualified and experienced who work cooperatively with lead staff to deliver the best practice in programs serving children and families. Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy follows the rules and laws written by the State of Arizona Department of Health Services. These laws are written to insure that children are cared for in a safe environment. We believe that we go far beyond these standards to supply you and your child with quality, best practice programs and care.
